Ciska is a lovely looking and nice natured female, she’s about 6yrs and could do with losing a few kilos! She is good with other dogs, her owner is emigrating and can’t take her along with him.   Joko is the dad of the pups (all homed) and is around 6yrs old. He was very confused as to what had happened to his world but has settled in nicely now. He is a pleasant natured old soul, might be a little wary of very young children but fine with older children. Laska is just a handsome old chap of 12yrs, he is a very pleasant dog who just wants a nice retirement home, his owner is emigrating and can’t take him with.  Roxy is the mum of the pups (all homed) she is about 3 to 4yrs old and is a honey of note, she’s a very loving girl and is good with other dogs. Her owner had financial difficulties and had to move out at short notice.

Shorty is so named because although he looks like a  Border Collie his little legs are corgi sized. He is around 5years old and has lived a miserable life, this has left him a little cautious of humans, especially men, until he decides on his terms that you aren’t going to hurt him and only then will he allow to you give him a love, he’s never sure if the attention he is getting is going to be good or bad. Shorty is going to need a family who is willing to work hard to regain his trust and give him the space he needs to do so, he won’t do well being “molly coddled” and needs a lot of time and treats and bribes to restore his faith in humanity. We would rather he didn’t go to a home with children as they all think he is “munchkin” cute and want to cuddle him but at the moment he finds cuddles quite scary. Shorty is progressing really well and has discovered the delights of football just in time for the world cup! So much so we are considering changing his name to Beckham! Reef is a friendly boy of about 2yrs old. He is good with other dogs and has a lovely personality. He is scared of thunder as a lot of collies are and can jump walls if he is in a panic so would need an electrified fence or high walling. Ideally he would go to a home where someone is home during the day and could let him in the house to hide away from the weather. His owner is moving to the Cape and can’t take her along with him.

Lucky is a 10 yr male and he's great with cats, kids and other dogs. Like a lot of older dogs (and me!) he can be a bit stiff if he overdoes it on the exercise so no marathon walks please. His owner has had to move and very sadly couldn't take him along. He's a really friendly boy who needs to lose a few kilo's, has been spoiled rotten as all self respecting collies are, he just wants a loving retirement home and a nice warm pillow to sleep on.

Tammy is a 4yr friendly female, she arrived at Wetnose very pregnant and soon presented them with 9 bouncing baby cross collie pups! There are 5 female and 4 male pups. For more info on adopting Tammy or one of her pups please look at http://www.wetnose.org.za

PORT ELIZABETH

This little pup was picked up roaming the streets. The vet says she is between 6 - 8 months old, so still a baby! She is being treated for billary at present and will be up for adoption once she is better, which should be within a day or two. She is at the Southern Cross Veterinary Clinic at present and will be there until she is homed (hopefully), or over the billary, then she will be going down to the Animal Welfare.
You can contact Southern Cross on 041-3734243/36 if you are interested in this puppy.

Dear BCR

Had a long chat with Irene earlier today re becoming involved in some way with BCR. As a result am forwarding you my contact details & some of my background with BC's. In 1991 we aquired a 6 week old BC we named Shelley & with whom we shared a wonderful 16 years. Having had many various breeds of dogs in the family whilst I was growing up Shelley turned out to be the one I'd always wanted beautiful, loving & soooo easy to train to the point where we reached non verbal obedience commands & was the "show & tell" dog in the class. I also used to assist with training from time to time. After a few weeks after her death we couldn't stand the quiet in the house & no face appearing round the door at walkies time each day so we went to a breeder for a pup. He only had two left the result being that we came home with both as we couldn't bear to leave one behind. Pippa & Ghia are now 3yrs & give us so much joy plus & of course double reminders at walkies time.

As I explained to Irene I would love to be able to foster/adopt but as we now live on a Private Nature Reserve & are restricted to two dogs this is not an option. I am therefore willing to be a contact for this area to assist in BC rescue, re-home,basic obedience training & any other assistance you may require that is within my capabilities. The Knysna local animal shelter I've found out is the Animal Welfare & from what I have been told is very good. I shall be going to visit them soon to introduce myself & see what their situation is & especially if they have any BC's they would like re-homed.
